Marcus' Book Club

Book Nonbá (2) Announced!

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

Word up fellow 'Worms! Been some time coming but the wait is finally over! M&S HQ - in partnership with the Marcus Mumford School for Those That Can't Read Good - is proud to announce the second instalment in the continuing adventures of the Mumford & Sons Book Club!

Fanfare please, maestro!

The second page-turning, mind-expander is...

'Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee: An Indian History of the American West' by Dee Brown.

If that whets the whistle, track a copy down, get the half-moons out, and get reading!

"History is written by the victor" - DISCUSS.

  • I was waltzing around Bloomington, Indiana yesterday (having traveled from Minneapolis), waiting for the much anticipated Mumford and Sons to begin their concert. I stepped into a hip little bookstore and left with "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee," and went to the show (incredible, by the way). I was a bit surprised today, reading about your book club and that you had just months ago chosen this book for the club. I'll have to read the book and then your review. I'm a fan of little coincidences.

  • I was at the Oxford Art Factory gig in Sydney - it was even better than expected (and I had very high expectations...). In a weak moment I asked you to come to Newcastle (Australia) next time, but you know what - I wouldn't bother, it's boring. There are better venues in Sydney. The book sounds interesting and will check it out. I've read so many history books on London it might be good to try something different. Thanks.

  • Agh! comments box cut me off mid-spiel. The cheek. In BMHAWK I like the Red Man's way of marking time and place - during the Moon of the Red Cherries...the Hot Moon...the Geese Laying Moon, when the grass was tall and the horses strong.... So plain, yet so evocative, don’t ya think? Have fun touring UK & Europe Love n peace xx Elena (in Melbourne)
