Eazy-E(ast) Coast Tour Vibez: USA RPRZNT!

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

Chrissy Colombus found it, Amerigo Vespucci named it, Washington et al shaped it, Steinbeck described it and Mumford & Sons are about to "Have at it". Where are we you ask? The New World of course! 'The English are coming!' I hear you cry. Damn right they are. No red coats this time though. Tweed and denim is more becoming.

First tour stop: Montreal. Those some crazy cats. It seems they had just won some primitive ice age sporting event and had, the night before, smashed up $200,000 worth of property. Now those are our kind of people. A wonderfully welcoming crowd to start us off with.

First American stop: Boston. We enter upon a huge tea party of men and women in long red socks chanting 'no taxation without representation!' Something to do with stamps I think. Anyway, big roads, big cars, big food. And they have something here called dentists... Very intriguing. Everybody is nervous about buying anything as we don't understand the tipping system - I panicked and paid a waitress a $10 tip for a Coke. Upon discovering this was way too much I was devastated. That's the other thing though; the money's all the same colour - or rather, 'color' - which makes it very hard to differentiate. This could prove seriously problematic for us.

Day off in NY. Concrete Jungle where dreams are made of apparently. Hell of a town. I want to be a part of it, you know, as an Englishman in New York. Marcus almost bought a puppy. Took a lot of convincing him this probably wasn't a good idea given we are living on a bus for the next six weeks. Reluctantly he agreed.

Went to see the Ghostbusters fire station which was awesome. Life long dream and it didn't disappoint, not one bit. Also saw the filming of Sesame Street. Was weird though as for some reason Elmo had this person's hand right up the back of him, I really couldn't work out why. Winnie said it was because he's a puppet but I don't believe him. Such a character that Winnie!

Philidelphia. To be honest the playground was where we spend most of our days. Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool etc. Had a cheese steak thing. Didn't really like it to be honest. Amazing gig though, great crowd and very welcoming people. Had the most enormous pizza i've ever seen in my life. Bought Fifa 2010 for the bus. Let battle commence.

From Phlli we headed to Williamsburg, Brooklyn and stocked up on some American Literature for the road. Tres vibe-y part of town. Feels rather like what I imagine Greenwich Village was like in the 60s: 'Oh look, It's Bob Dylan and Allen Ginsberg buying furniture... And over there Andy Warhol's playing Ping-Pong with Mark Rothko'. What a decade man.

That's it Chaps and Lasses.

Until next time,

Lots of Love M&S HQ and TEDWINNIEMARCUSBEN.

Post Script: the real aim of this tour is to get to a frat party. You know, one of those Kappa Dappa Pappa things that serve Sigma pie and where the jocks beat you up in front of girls. Like in the films right? Up for it? Also anyone want to go dirt bike riding with Marcus? He's desperate.

  • 'Tis an oft-asked question, I know, but what are the chances of another visit to the U.S./Boston (within the next year or so?) Alas, I missed your recent tour! If Boston is not an option, I'd make a trip to the Big Apple in a heartbeat, as would many of my friends. Please keep all of us posted. Mumford & Sons has a lovely Celtic sound to so many of its songs on the "Sigh No More" album. Out of curiosity, although I recognize you're all from England, do any of you have Irish roots?

  • that still exists? (The Rolling Stones ARE dead. Please, Jagger. Stop. Just Stop. And Bob Dylan? Play a concert here? Ha.) I have relapsed again into hoping for a time machine. Please, HQ, sympathize with us Minneapolitans with a good quip. And sorry for spouting my sorrows.

  • At this moment Mumford and Sons are in Minneapolis........ Yet I cannot see them at their concert! The frustration succumbs me, and I am forced to reply, sadly, a second time, to a post. Why is it that a teen who is no fan(quite the opposite, actually) of Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber(God forbid), Ke$ha, etc., must finally find a band who is still touring (the White Stripes have vanished), and lose all hope of ever seeing them? After having the 60s-70s music on repeat, am I not allowed to see a band

  • Please, next time, try some smaller stops. I know you were in many places around Vermont, but some of us find it hard to leave here. Burlington is a good stop here, and I guarantee a show here would sell out in no time. Vermont is a place separate from the US. One may even say you'd feel quite at home here.

  • I was at your show in Cleveland on Friday, and I cannot possibly express in words how amazing that was. It was absolutely the best concert I've ever been to. Your music means so much to me. Sigh No More helped me get through a really tough time in my life. As lame as I know it probably sounds, your concert gave me hope. Which is something I was in serious need of at the time. I hope you come back to Ohio. We love you here. Thank you. Love, Nancy

  • Great show at the 9:30 club, thanks so much for making a stop here. Markus, enjoyed chatting briefly about the book club...if you need some recs on American literature that would make for a good discussion. Might not be Kerouac Hemingway and all that, but there are some great young writers out there with varied backgrounds. peace.

  • i've been a diehard since i saw marcus rep you guys by his lonesome while supporting ms. marling in a sketchy dive in williamsburg, brooklyn...sigh. i felt beyond privileged to be part of the epic moment that came in the shape your acoustic performance of sister - all 4 of the brood teetering on the edge of the stage at lee's palace, toronto. and just a week or so ago, a day after reaching a new year in my life, i almost died at your cambridge show. quite the scapbook i'm making with you. thanks

  • I just got home from your concert tonight in Cleveland. It was the single best concert I've ever been to. You guys are so powerful. I really wish I'd had the chance to talk to you and tell you how much your music means to me. Sigh No More helped me get through an incredibly difficult time in my life. So from the sincerest part of my heart... thank you for what you do. We love you in Ohio, so make sure to come back! Love, Nancy
